about

Written in just a few hours after seeing heartbreaking news reports from Putin's needless war in Ukraine.

lyrics

Her feet are cold, her heart is torn,
She walks away from where she was born.
Doesn’t know if she’s lost or found,
On the cold dark streets of this border town.

And somewhere in the dark tonight,
Her man has stayed there, just to fight.
To save the land that they call home.
She hopes he doesn’t die ... alone.

You tell the world you do what’s right.
Then hurl your bombs out in the night.
Attack the children in their beds,
Deny you kill; deny they’re dead.

But somewhere in the dark tonight,
They crouch in fear, prepare to fight.
To save the land that they call home.
And pray that they don’t die … alone.

There are outstretched arms of kindness here,
And gentle voices ease the fear.
There’s food and drink and calm and warm,
To keep them from this awful war.

And somewhere in the dark tonight,
The men have stayed there, just to fight.
To save the land that they call home.
They hope their men don’t die ... forlorn.

And they will sing their songs of love,
And some may pray to God above.
To try and ease the awful pain,
You visit on beloved … Ukraine.
